Nowadays, the mass market holds thousands of tubs, different models with prices varying from affordable to expensive. Considering these facts, it might be frustrating to come to a decision on which model is best for you, which will bring more value, and which one has the most advantages.
Now, to get more into the specifics, an acrylic bathtub is formed by vacuum sheets of acrylic, while afterward, as you may know, it is reinforced with fiberglass. This is a great design that poses many advantages over the other types of tubs, it makes the product way much lighter, more versatile. However, it’s important to note that acrylic bathtubs can be easily prone to scratches, which means that you have to be careful, however, with toothpaste and soda.
However, for cleaning an acrylic bathtub, non-abrasive stuff is not recommended. Since we mentioned the fiberglass, you may already know that it is a porous material, which means that it absorbs water regularly, which afterward leads to a shorter lifespan. Although when you combine this with acrylic, fiberglass is no longer porous with the sheets providing enough of a barrier between the water and the bathtub itself.
But the advantages of being reinforced with fiberglass are many, starting with the fact that acrylic bathtubs can come in a plethora of designs, shapes, and sizes.
They usually come in alcove design, which is great because it functions as the standard drop-in design with a decent size of 60-inches in length, 32-inches wide and 18-inches tall.
Oval or other circular shapes have become also very popular with an average size of 60-inches in length, 41-inches in width and a height of 24-inches.
As more luxurious models are those corner bathtubs which take the shape of a full square, while the average size of such bathtubs is 60-inches long, 60-inches wide with a height of 22-inches.
Now, since fiberglass is really lightweight, the reinforcement with colored acrylic does not add too much additional weight, which basically makes these types of bathtubs the lightest tubs on the market. They can also be easily repaired and cleaned, so in other words, acrylic bathtubs are easily the best option you got at an affordable price.
Since we mentioned the price, acrylic bathtubs are much cheaper due to their fiberglass reinforcement, however, they do not sacrifice quality for it, they are quite durable and lightweight at the same time.
Before we end, it’s important to note that before buying an acrylic bathtub, make sure you consult with your designer to see if it fits in your bathroom because size is a really important thing you need to take into consideration.
